SIPA Registration Request Form

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE YOU SUBMIT.  REQUESTS WHICH DO NOT FALL INTO THE CATEGORIES BELOW WILL NOT BE PROCESSED NOR WILL A NOTIFICATION BE SENT.

Note: 
This form is to request registration in SIPA courses only. Non SIPA course requests are NOT processed via this form. Please submit non-SIPA registration reuqests to the University Registrar at ssc@columbia.edu.

 
GENERAL INFORMATION:
  • Transactions submitted by 3pm will be processed within two (2) to three (3) business days. If we are unable to process your transaction you will be notified via e-mail, unless it falls into one of the categories noted above.

  • Before submitting this form, please ensure that there are no schedule conflicts and that you will not be in excess of the maximum points allowed. In the case of a confilict or excess credits your request will not be processed. 
  • Students will be notified via email only if OSA is unable to process your request. As noted aove there will be no notification or processing of requests which should not be submitted via this form.   Otherwise please monitor your schedule for the requested change.
  • Please refer to the SIPA academic calendar for important dates and deadlines.

  • Students can drop short courses any time prior to the day of the second class session. For short courses that are dropped after this time a "W" will be posted.

  • Permission to take a course for “Registration Credit” (Audit) is granted by the instructor. Students do not need to submit an add/drop form to change the grading option to "R" credit.

SIPA STUDENTS:

This form is to be used only for SIPA COURSE REGISTRTION. In the following instances:

  1. To register SIPA courses which cannot be registered/waitlisted directly via SSOL, for which you have received faculty permission to register. Note that documented permission must accompany the request.

  2. First semester students who have met a core requirement via a proficiency exam. If the core requirement is a prerequisite for a course you wish to register you will need to submit the request form along with documentation of the passed proficiency exam. This is only applicable in the first semester.

This form should NOT be used:

  1. To request registration in non-SIPA course. Non-SIPA course registration is processed either by the University registrar or the relevant department or School. Please reference the SIPA cross-registration page.
  2. To request grade option changes (i.e. change to pass/fail and letter grade). Grade option changes should be made via SSOL through the pass/fail deadline. EXCEPTION: The only exception is grade option change requests submitted after the deadline for short courses which are still in session.

NON-SIPA STUDENTS:

THIS FORM SHOULD NOT BE USED TO SUBMIT REQUESTS FOR SIPA COURSES WHICH ARE CLOSED TO CROSS-REGISTRANTS.

All SIPA courses which are open for registration to non-SIPA students are available for direct registration via SSOL. The list of open courses is available on the SIPA cross-registration site. Please note that there is one exception

EXCEPTION:

Undergraduate students who have been admitted to an "open" course at the 6000 level or above will need to submit the registration request, along with instructor permission via this form as registration via SSOL will be blocked.  Note this applies only to courses already open for registration.
