Vehicle and cart driver guidelines
*
Vehicles and carts are only to be used by currently Recreation staff, volunteers or approved Comp Sports Athletes holding current licenses.
I understand and agree
Vehicles and carts are only to be used for official university business.
I understand and agree
When operating a vehicle or cart, all California or local driving laws and traffic signs must be followed.
I understand and agree
No cell phone use or texting while driving.
I understand and agree
Accidents (injury to person or damage to vehicle or cart) must be reported to my supervisor immediately.
I understand and agree
Any accidents or vehicle code violations may become part of the permanent record with your insurance carrier and/or the DMV.
I understand and agree
UCSD Recreation may check my Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record every few months and will be notified if there is activity on my driving record.
I understand and agree
After use, vehicles must be trash & cargo free, returned to appropriate location and secured. Keys must be returned to appropriate location.
I understand and agree
Vehicles must be gassed up if there is less than 3/4 tank. Carts must be plugged in for charging.
I understand and agree
Personal vehicles may not be gassed up at Fleet Services.
I understand and agree
Any maintenance issues or observed damage should be reported to your supervisor as soon as possible.
I understand and agree
Failure to comply with use policy, render common courtesies or follow rules of the road could result in: citation, appropriate disciplinary action, suspension of driving privileges.
I understand and agree

All costs for insurance, maintenance, repairs and fueling are applied to Outback's indexes.
I understand and agree

I understand and agree
Nissan NV vans must be returned to Recreation pro staff unless prior arrangements are made with Tom or Simon.

Cart driver guidelines
*
Pedestrians, skaters and bicyclists always have the right of way.
I understand and agree
Carts must not be used on designated campus bike paths.
I understand and agree
When following or passing pedestrians, skaters, or bicyclists, they should be given a large cushion of space.
I understand and agree
Keys must be removed from cart when not in use to reduce unauthorized use. If provided, the “club” (steering wheel locking device) must be utilized if the cart is not going to be driven for an extended period of time or is parked overnight.
I understand and agree
If a vehicle collision happens
*
Do not admit or accuse fault
I understand and agree
Call the UCSD Police if the incident happens on campus, and wait for an officer to prepare a report before anyone leaves the scene. Off campus, the Highway Patrol will respond to injury or major collisions only — not minor fender-benders. If off campus police do not complete an accident report, go to the UCPD as soon as possible to complete an accident report.
I understand and agree
Fill out the UCSD Vehicle/Cart Incident Report at the scene of the incident before either party leaves. Forms are stored in the glove box of UCSD vehicles. Get 2 independent witnesses if possible.
I understand and agree
Call my supervisor and area director to report the accident ASAP.
I understand and agree
Call Risk Management, (858) 246-0369, and Fleet Services, (858) 534-3485, within 24 hours.
I understand and agree
What happens after a vehicle collision.
*
The DMV receives notification of an incident if the damage is over $750, which may increase your personal auto insurance premiums or jeopardize coverage with your personal auto insurance company.
I understand and agree
For a liability incident, your department budget will be charged a $500 deductible and 20% of the claim cost per incident. In addition, the yearly premium will include a surcharge for the next 3 years.
I understand and agree
A deductible of $500 will also be paid by the department/area if the UCSD vehicle is damaged. Gross negligence will be a higher cost, determined per incident.
I understand and agree
If the incident results in a lawsuit, you may be named as a defendant, deposed, and have to testify in court.
I understand and agree
You and your supervisor may be asked to attend a meeting with Risk Management and the UCSD Vehicle Accident Review Board to discuss the incident.
I understand and agree
