The William R. Nester Award recognizes alumni association excellence. Applicants are considered by the following criteria:
- Does the association’s activities benefit the chapter it supports and/or the International Fraternity overall (i.e. does the association advance the Fraternity’s Vision, Mission, and Creed)?
- Is the association a chartered alumni association of the International Fraternity?
- Are the alumni association officers kept current on the International Fraternity's records?
- Is the association current on its annual dues assessment at the time of application?
- Has the associated updated roster of members and contact information with the International Fraternity within the last application year?
- Do the association’s activities and events build and maintain strong brotherly ties amongst the association’s members?
- Support of programming hosted/provided to alumni members (in-person or virtually). Examples could include:
- Bi-annual events (Homecoming, Founders Day, Etc.)
- Monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly happy hours or luncheons
- Is a monthly, quarterly, or bi-annual newsletter sent to alumni (and friends)?
- Are updates provided in the quarterly Shield & Diamond Magazine?
The Nester Award will be awarded to the top performing chartered alumni associations. Applications will be scored and associations will be ranked based on structure, communication, and activities by the International Awards Committee. Awards will be announced at the Thomas C. Tillar Leadership Academy in Memphis (July 27 - 30, 2023) and mailed to the alumni association president.
Award recipients will receive:
- William T. Nester Award plaque.
- Listing in the Shield & Diamond magazine and Fraternity website.
- Press release to pertinent publications or organizations.
