Tutors are responsible for meeting with students during scheduled appointments or on a walk-in basis to assist with course content. Tutors also help students develop critical learning skills and behaviors, which promote academic success. Tutors choose which courses they would like to tutor and typically work 6 – 10 hours per week in the Engineering Center for Academic Success (ECAS), 273 Chrysler. They are able to schedule their hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends. Tutors can work a combination of in-person and online hours, but all tutors will be required to have some in-person tutoring hours. The pay rate for tutors is $16.00.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders lead weekly SI sessions for an assigned course (such as Math 105, 115, 116, 214, 215, 216; Physics 140, 240; Eng101, EECS 203, 280, 281; ME 211, 235, 240). These sessions meet on Sunday afternoons for 90 minutes. Supplemental Instruction leaders facilitate interactive, collaborative learning among participants and focus on exam preparation using past exam problems as well as providing additional instruction to complement classroom lectures. SI leaders should be very familiar with the course content and may find it useful to follow along with lectures and consult with the course instructor, depending on the particular course. SI leaders are paid for their time to prepare for each weekly session, in addition to the actual contact time and typically work 5-6 hours per week. The pay rate for SI Leaders is $18.50.
